'조엘 온 소프트웨어'를 재미있게 읽었던 차에.. 뭐 읽을만한 책이 없을까 하던중에 보게된 책 입니다. 출판되었을때 부터 사서 보려고 했지만.. 그때는 단지 '조엘 온 소프트웨어'의 인기로 출판된 아류(이건 아닌데 마땅한 단어가 생각이 안나네요) 책 정도가 아닐까 해서 구매를 조금 미뤘었습니다. 근데 막상 읽어 보니 그런 생각을 했다는 것이 한심스러울 정도로 이전 책과는 다른 재미.. 또한 생각할 거리를 주는 아주 괜찮은 책이었습니다.

이 책은 전세계 IT 관련 블로거 26명이 블로깅한 29개의 블로그 글을(조엘 자신의 블로그에서 추천을 받아서) 조엘이 심사(?)후 많은 IT 관련 종사자들이 읽을만한 글들을 모아놓은 책입니다. 각 블로그 글의 서두에는 조엘의 그 글에대한 생각이 적혀 있어서. 그 글에 대한 자신의 생각과 비교해 볼수도 있게 해 두었습니다. 어찌보면 우리나라 정서나 실정에 맞지 않는 글들도 있을 수 있으므로(개인에 따라서), 비판적으로 보시길 바랍니다.

우리나랑에도 많은 IT 관련 블로그들이 있지만, 이 책에 소개된 블로그들과 같이 개발자이면서도 인문학적(철학이 있는) 개발자들- 폴 그레이엄의 해커와 화가에서 나오는 말-의 블로그는 찾아 보기가 힘들던데.. 우리나라에도 이러한 블로그들이 많이 생겼으면 하는 바랩입니다.

끝으로 조엘이 한 말중에 이게 기억이 남는군요. "어떠한 기술에 대해서 그 스펙을 (개발자인)자신이 이해하지 못한다면 너무 걱정하지 마라. 다른 개발자들도 이해하지 못할 것이고, 그러한 기술은 그리 유명해 지지 않을것이다." 저도 이 생각에 많이 동감하는데, 즉 기술은 고객을 향하기도 해야 하지만 개발자들 또한 그 기술의 고객임을 잊어서는 안된다는 것이죠.
많은 신기술들이 여기저기서 쏟아 지는 이때, 과연 어떠한 것이 살아남을지를 이 관점에서 지켜보는 것도 괜찮을것 같습니다.
